Add a favicon
The small icon shown in browser tabs.
A favicon is the small icon browsers show next to your site's name in tabs and bookmarks. You can upload your own for each site.
Upload a favicon#
- In the editor, open the site menu at the top left and choose Settings.
- On the General page, find Favicon.
- Select Upload favicon and choose a file.
The icon uploads straight away and you'll see Saved. It appears on your live site without publishing again.
File requirements#
| Requirement | Limit |
|---|---|
| Format | PNG, ICO, SVG or WebP |
| File size | Up to 128 KB |
| Shape | Square (PNG and WebP) |
| Dimensions | Up to 512×512 px (PNG and WebP) |
Browsers usually show favicons at 16×16 or 32×32 px, so 32×32 px works well. Pick a simple design that's still clear at that size.
Replace or remove it#
- To replace it, select Replace favicon and choose a new file.
- To remove it, select the trash icon next to it.
If the upload doesn't work#
- "Unsupported format. Use PNG, ICO, SVG, or WebP." Save or export the icon in one of those formats.
- "File exceeds 128 KB limit." Export a smaller version, or reduce the image size.
- "Use a square image" The width and height must match. Crop the image to a square.
- "Image is … px. Maximum size is 512×512 px." Resize the image to 512×512 px or smaller.
- "Could not read image. Try PNG, ICO, SVG, or WebP." The file may be damaged. Export it again.
Browsers keep favicons for a while. If you still see the old icon on your site, reload the page or open it in a private window.
